I finally saw Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland in 3D at the Mall of Asia last Saturday. We went to the first showing at noon. The ticket was P250 with “snacks”. The choices were a box of bland popcorn or a small-sized hotdog in a bun.
It was my first time seeing a movie in 3D so we had glasses to put on to see the movie. Without them, the screen just looks blurry. I don’t think it makes much of a difference if you see it in 3D or a regular cinema since the images in the movie are amazing in itself. I think Tim Burton has a wonderful imagination. I like his version of Wonderland or Underland as the characters refer to it. The performance of the characters are amazing except for Anne’s. She wasn’t bad but in comparison to a stellar cast, her performance was a little awkward at times.
Off with her head! Just kidding. I love her. I don’t think any other actress would have done a better job playing the red queen.
Another amazing performance from Mr. Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter.
Mad Hatter: “There is a place. Like no place on Earth. A land full of wonder, mystery, and danger! Some say to survive it: You need to be as mad as a hatter.”
I think to play the Mad Hatter with depth and humility to support the main lead Alice, not just by being plain loony, you’d need mad skills.
Costume design is by Colleen Atwood. She was spot on! I loved all the dresses on Alice when she was in Wonderland especially the one made from curtains at the red queen’s court but I couldn’t find an image of it. I also loved the
Alice in Wonderland inspired accessories like the necklace and the shoes.
I really enjoyed this movie. I heard that a lot of people said it was good and I usually have apprehension towards those movies because I don’t end up liking them after I’ve seen them because I watch them with expectations. With this movie, I just sort of sat there and enjoyed it. I’m a visual kind of person, maybe that’s why. It is not the most amazing plot but I think they made the most out of it. I also like the life lessons. It will be the new Alice in Wonderland I will show to my future kids and watch it with them. An upgrade from the old version I grew up with. :)
Highly Recommended! ^^
