IMG_2420The Hokkaido Shrine is located in Sapporo, Japan at Maruyama Park. It enshrines four kami including the soul of the emperor Meiji. Kami are the spirits worshipped in the religion of Shinto.

From Maruyama Park, we made our way to the shrine. You know you are near one when you see these gates. I think that the snow makes this site feel very special.

IMG_2405The first building we saw on our way was this one. There were hardly anyone there except for a couple.

IMG_2411 IMG_2414On the main shrine, as always, there’s a place to wash your hands and mouth before entering.

IMG_2416After we said a prayer, we went to the place where amulets were sold. I really wanted to get one but it was so crowded with Chinese tourists and you can’t even just quickly get one so I just gave up on it. I could still get one in Tokyo.

IMG_2423 IMG_2426We did get a fortune paper and it was in English. Mine was bad so I had to tie it up on one of these.

IMG_2424Outside the shrine, there were a lot of food stalls just in case you got hungry. There were also vehicles. I guess this one was the main entrance to the temple because it directly lines up along the street. We exited this way.
